Bait the trap and capture a sunset.
The murders that happened on 10th Street in July 2011 left four children and their mother dead. Law enforcement officials called it the worst homicide in Jackson County history. I saw the tail end of extrication efforts, saw bloodstained children and their mother, and the accused father, transported. I saw a neighborhood, a city, affected by a bad dream.

My editor prompted me to write this because he sensed I was burying everything.  He encouraged me to write something people would connect with in the midst of this sudden, awful nightmare. This short commentary piece resulted. Numerous hugs, thank-you emails and tear-filled phone calls later, it became the most memory-filled piece - fiction and non-fiction both - I've written to date.
